Common Questions About Training with AODT

What if I have low dive hours?

Although the minimum prerequisites for the course are quite low, we find that people who are more 'comfortable' in the water tend to get more out of the course, and that often comes with more water experience (even if not specifically diving experience)!

If you haven't spent a lot of time in the water in your life, you will almost certainly still be able to do the course provided you meet the minimum ADAS swimming prerequisites, but we certainly recommend that you do as many dives prior to starting your course as possible, as comfort in the water is critical, but we’ll certainly help you get there safely.

Do you help prepare for exams?

We certainly do! We provide students with all required theory resources (and a lot more!) as early as we can before their course, and encourage students to call us with questions as often as they need to before the start of the course. We will happily organise extra on-line study sessions if you need them.

Can very experienced divers, and/or Divemasters and Dive instructors benefit from this course?

Absolutely. Many highly experienced divers have taken our course, and found it far more valuable than they expected — and their feedback suggest that it does a great job of addressing many of the competency and knowledge gaps left by traditional 'recreational occupational diver training' - noting that ANY diver being paid to undertake diving work is an occupational diver - including Divemasters and Dive instructors (even though these are often not viewed as occupational divers!).

What’s different about AODT?

We train in real-world environments, not confined water. You'll be taught by experienced instructors who have worked in your field, who will actively stay involved with every student – from enrolment to the final dive and beyond.

Is AODT certified?

Yes – AODT is an accredited ADAS Training Establishment (ATE), part of a very select group of training providers across Australia and internationally who undergo regular auditing to ensure they meet all ADAS standards..

Is your courses suitable for beginners?

Although ADAS only requires students to hold an Open Water certification and minimal logged hours, we feel that divers get far more out of our courses when they have more experience than this. We recommend you have at least 10-15 hrs (and preferably more!) before you come for your course, however the need for this does very much depend on your own comfort level in the water and diving skill. If you're unsure, give us a call and we will be happy to discuss your own situation.
